Traveling to Goa

While visiting Goa, there are many places you can experience within the city. Anjuna is a popular locale, as it has become famous for its Wednesday markets. It is also known for having the best beaches in Goa. Mapusa is not as much of a beach village, but does offer shopping on Fridays. These markets are intended more for the locals and there will not be any pvc banners in sight explaining what the stalls are, but brave tourists can enjoy seeing a slice of the authentic Indian life here. Old Goa offers a piece of Indian history with its many cathedrals, some of which still stand from the 1500’s. The Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary is another place to visit, as it offers a glimpse at the wild animals of the country.
It seems the best time to visit Goa is between November and March, when the weather is a bit cooler and more ideal for vacationing. Visiting in October, which is actually considered the beginning of the tourist season, you are likely to have the place to yourself. However, many of the restaurants and shops will still be closed as well. Rain is more likely to occur during the monsoons that strike the area between June and September, which is enough cause to not want to travel there during these months.
Travelers can visit Goa from by land or air. For transportations on land, there are choices of a bus or train. The public buses are an option, but they are typically overcrowded. Private bus transportation is available from large cities within India, including Mubai, Bengaluru, and Mumbai. The Konkan Railway is the train that will allow travelers to get to Goa from Mubai or Mangalore. Most that fly to Goa arrive at the Mumbai or Goa’s Dabolim airports. The majority of visitors stop in Mumbai, as only a few airlines use the Dabolim airport.
